Shaving 101

shaveAre you shaving properly? Chances are, if you are using the wrong tools to shave your face or are experiencing uncomfortable stubble and ingrown hairs than your shaving technique is flawed. A flawed shaving technique can cause rashes on the skin as well as many other ailments. Here are some things that you should ensure are completed while shaving to protect the skin:

First, the skin should be wet before any product such as shaving gel or cream is applied. Using warm water is essential, as hot water can dry the skin and cold water can make shaving difficult. To encourage the hair follicles to soften, simply use a warm washcloth to apply to the skin before shaving to ensure that you going to be able to shave easily.

Use shaving cream applied to the skin in circular motions. These circular motions can make it easier to shave as it can stimulate the hair follicles, causing the hair to rise and therefore it can easily be shaved.

Which direction should you shave? From the jaw line, it is important to shave downwards. This is the same direction that the hair grows and it can be helpful to move the face, or use your fingers to pull the face to ensure that you are making the most of your shave. Through the chin area, it can be helpful to shave upwards to get rid of the growth of hair.

Don’t forget to use a new razor or switch the blade when it becomes dull as a dull razor can cause instant irritation to the skin.
